INTERLEAGUE Uribe's two homers power Rockies past Indians, 7-3
He was playing in his first game since breaking his right foot in March.
DENVER (AP) -- Cleveland Indians right-hander Ricardo Rodriguez swears that Colorado's Juan Uribe "never got a hit off of me in winter ball" the past few years, going "0-for-15 or something like that."
Uribe made up for lost opportunities Tuesday night.
Playing for the first time this season after breaking his right foot in spring training, Uribe hit a pair of two-run homers off Rodriguez to power the Rockies to a 7-3 win.
Uribe, activated from the 60-day disabled list earlier in the day after playing seven games in the minors on a rehabilitation assignment, hit a two-run shot in the third and another in the sixth. A shortstop, Uribe played second base for the first time in the majors.
"I was ready to play anywhere, any position," he said. "Whatever the manager needs is what I will do. I am just trying to make contact. But tonight when I made contact, the ball was going."
Had surgery
Uribe broke a bone in his foot on March 1 and underwent surgery.
"I'm not surprised by my success because I worked very hard to come back," he said.
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said he was "happy for him and proud of him. He obviously made his presence felt tonight."
Preston Wilson and Todd Helton also homered for the Rockies, who snapped the Indians' five-game winning streak.
Scott Elarton (2-1) went six innings for the victory, allowing seven hits and three runs.
"This was better than my last start, but I still have things to work on," Elarton said.
"A couple of times I'd get two quick outs and then give up a walk or a hit. I have to keep the same tempo I used to get those two outs instead of trying to hurry to get the third out."
Omar Vizquel had three hits for Cleveland. Rodriguez (3-6) allowed eight hits and seven runs in six innings.
"The home runs were the difference," Indians manager Eric Wedge said.
"Ricardo had real good stuff. He just left some sliders up over the plate, and that's what they were hitting."
Cleveland scored a run in the first on two singles and Milton Bradley's RBI groudout.
Wilson connects
Wilson led off the second with his 13th homer.
Uribe's shot helped the Rockies take a 4-1 lead in the third. Elarton reached on a fielder's choice, and Uribe hit a 422-foot drive to left-center.
The Rockies subsequently loaded the bases on two singles and a walk, and a run scored on Larry Walker's grounder.
The Indians made it 4-2 in the fifth. With two outs, Vizquel walked and scored on a triple into the right-field corner by former Rockies prospect Jody Gerut.
Colorado got the run back in its half on Helton's 432-foot solo homer, his 11th.
Josh Bard, another ex-Rockies prospect, hit a solo homer, his third, cutting the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth.
Elarton wriggled out of a jam in the fourth. With one out, Ben Broussard singled to left, Casey Blake walked and Bard singled off first baseman Helton's glove, loading the bases. But on Brandon Phillips' hard grounder, Helton and catcher Charles Johnson combined on a 3-2-3 double play.
"We had great defense tonight," Elarton said. "What a double play by Helton and C.J."
