FESTIVALS
XImmaculate Heart of Mary, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, will hold its 20th annual festival Wednesday through Sunday. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Wednesday, which is preview night; 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight Sunday. There will be rides, food booths, a white elephant booth, entertainment and cash prizes. Dinners will be served as follows: Friday, fish from 4 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, haluski from 4 to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and pasta dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. On Thursday a 5K run will begin at 7 p.m., with registration at 5; entry fee is $10 in advance and $12 the day of the event. On Saturday a weight lift/dead lift contest will be held at 12:30 p.m.; weigh-in will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Sunday evening will feature a $5000 grand prize, special drawings and fireworks.
XSt. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, will hold a festival June 11 to 15. Children's night will be June 11 with games, rides and food for kids only from 6 to 10 p.m. June 12 and 15 the festival will end at 11 p.m., and on June 13 and 14, events will be open until midnight. A $10,000 grand-prize drawing will be held at 11 p.m. June 15. For more information call (330) 755-9819.
XSt. Pius X Church, 1401 Moncrest Drive N.W., Warren, will hold a family festival Thursday through Sunday. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 11 p.m. Sunday. There will be a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. There also will be entertainment, rides, food and games. A grand-prize drawing will be held at 10 p.m. Sunday. First-place prize will be $1,000; second, $500; and third, $250. Tickets will be available at the festival.
SALES
XAlzheimer's Association will hold its 21st annual giant garage sale Friday and Saturday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield. Household items, toys, collectibles, clothing and books will be available. A preview sale will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday; cost is $5 per person (including children). Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Donations of new and gently used items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the church. XCrossing Paths, Christian television ministry, will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 670 Dutch Lane, Hermitage, Pa. Donations can be dropped off at the building, or call (724) 981-777 for pickup information. Light refreshments and musical entertainment will be available.
XNevels Temple Church, 939 Elm St., Youngstown, will hold a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Household items, toys and clothing will be sold. There will be a "bouncer" for children to play in while parents shop.
XNew Wilmington Garden Club will sell herbs, perennials, lilies and houseplants from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday on the Square in New Wilmington, Pa. Homemade pies and box lunches will also be available. For more information call Margaret Courtwright, (724) 946-8461.
XPythian Sisters will hold its semiannual rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 123 College St., West Farmington. Clothing, books, shoes and household items will be available, and lunch will be served. Saturday will be $1-a-bag day.
XTrumbull County Historical Society will conduct its annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Jonathan Stark Edwards House, 303 Monroe St. N.W., Warren. Proceeds from the sale will be used to maintain the 1807 house and gardens. The Upton Association also will be conducting its garage sale the same weekend at the Upton House on Mahoning Avenue.
SPECIAL EVENTS
XMahoning Valley Rose Society will hold a one-day seminar and demonstration on preparing roses for shows. The free event is open to anyone interested in exhibiting roses, and will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.
