HARTFORD -- At least 10 people were injured, none seriously, when a walkway collapsed Friday night at the Sharon Speedway.
Trumbull County 911 dispatch said none of the injuries appeared to be serious and no one was trapped.
A Trumbull County Sheriff's Department dispatcher said the injured were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown; St. Joseph Health Center, Warren; and Sharon Regional Health System, Sharon.
There was no report on the nature of the injuries and the names of the people injured.
Ambulances from around Trumbull County were sent to the scene after the collapse about 9:30 p.m. during a sprint car event on a rainy night.
Emergency crews from Hartford, Brookfield, Kinsman, Vernon, Fowler, Vienna and Johnston townships assisted, according to a sheriff's department spokesman.
The track co-owner, Lisa Blaney, wife of NASCAR driver Dave Blaney, said a 10- to 15-foot section about 4 feet off the ground at the base of the western end of the wooden grandstand collapsed as fans tried to get out of the rain.
Ben Anspach, Hartford fire chief, said the cause of the collapse is under investigation.
The 3/8-mile dirt track was featuring the O'Reilly World of Outlaws series Friday night. The speedway is located about 10 miles north of Youngstown and 11/2 miles from the Pennsylvania border.
