PA. PARKS | McConnell's Mill, Moraine



Hikes, history and nature will be the topics of weekend programs scheduled at McConnell's Mill and Moraine state parks, near Portersville, Pa.
MORAINE STATE PARK
"Family Scavenger Hunt." A naturalist will give participants a list of nature items to look for. The walk is from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Pleasant Valley Beach first aid station.
"Moraine State Park, Past and Present." This hourlong program, beginning at 2 p.m. June 7 at the Hilltop Nature Trailhead on the South Shore, will explore the changes that took place in the area before Moraine became a state park 33 years ago.
"Become a S.M.A.R.T. Angler." Adult supervision and preregistration are required for this children's event, which is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 7 at Porter's Cove. Children will learn various fishing techniques, the importance of clean water, angler safety and other topics.
"Natural Symbols of Pennsylvania." A naturalist will meet at the Point Picnic area and discuss how various symbols were chosen to represent the state. The event is from 2 to 3 p.m. June 8.
McCONNELL'S MILL STATE PARK
"Nature Hike." An hourlong walk, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Point parking lot, will explore various animals and other aspects of nature. Participants are encouraged to bring field guides and binoculars.
"Who Lives in Hell's Run?" A naturalist will discuss certain small animals found in creeks and other bodies of water. Meet at noon June 8 at the Hell's Hollow parking lot.
