NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- There will be a new way to travel to Youngstown come Monday.
The New Castle Area Transit Authority is starting weekday bus routes to and from Youngstown.
The service is meant to accommodate the growing number of college students from Lawrence County attending classes in Youngstown, said Leonard Lastoria, transit authority director.
Lastoria estimates there are 700 students from Lawrence County who attend classes at Youngstown State University each day. He said they are unsure how many commute each day, but they believe the bus service will serve a large number of people.
Buses will run every two hours from 7:10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays. Buses will leave Cascade Galleria in downtown New Castle and make several stops along U.S. Route 422 , including the New Castle School of Trades, before reaching Lincoln Knolls Plaza on Youngstown's East Side.
Transfer to WRTA
Bus riders then must transfer to a Western Reserve Transit Authority Bus that will take them to downtown Youngstown.
Lastoria said a one-way trip, including the transfer from Lincoln Knolls Plaza to downtown, will cost $1.
A complete schedule is listed on the transit authority Web site at www.newcastletransit.org.
