CLASS B Livi Steel, Becdir open season with victories
STRUTHERS -- Livi Steel used a 14-hit attack to beat Lazart 14-1 in the opening night of the Class B league Thursday at Cene Park.
Phil Butch went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, including a triple, while Matt Geramita added two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.
Robert Walley added two hits, including a double, while Mark Tanner added a double for Livi.
John Flaminio had a double for Lazart to drive home its only run.
Becdir 8, Youngstown Propane 3
Aaron Boris and Billy Bowes had three hits each for Becdir, while Luke Srock had two hits and three RBIs.
Becdir scored four unearned runs in the third inning.
For Propane, Chris Berkley had two hits, while losing pitcher Anthony Mussolino had a two-run triple.
Rondinelli 7, Line Drive 3
Mike DeNiro had a triple and a double and two RBIs to pace Rondinelli. Lee Keck added two hits for Rondinelli.
Dan Ford, Mike Turjanca, and Matt Madrid had two hits each for Line Drive.
Wharmby Sports 6, Roth Bros. 2
Pat Oman was 4-for-4 and scored two runs for Wharmby. One of Oman's hits was a triple. Brian Smith added two hits, including a double, for the winners who also got two hits each from winning pitcher Mike DeCola and Rudy Pekarovic.
For Roth, losing pitcher Kyle Irish had their two hits, both doubles, and also drove in both runs.
Astro Falcons 9, Yo. Express 1
A six-run seventh inning broke open a tight contest. Dan Leonard had two hits, including a triple, while Frank Turocy had three runs batted in for the winners.
Jacob Wycoff had two hits for the Express.
Twelve Astro players batted in the seventh inning with the key hits being a double by Brent Parks and two run-scoring singles by Turocy and Josh McKinney.
