TRUMBULL COUNTY Plan to build water main moves ahead

The line will promote development on state Route 193, officials say.
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer's office is moving ahead on plans to build a water main up state Route 193 in Liberty, connecting two separate sections of the county's water system.
The county commissioners approved hiring Lynn, Kittinger and Noble Inc. of Warren on Wednesday to engineer a waterline from Kline's Farm and Tibbetts-Wick Road. The design fee is $19,250 for the estimated $250,000 project.
Connecting the Metropolitan Sewer District, in Liberty, with the Four Townships District further north will allow for greater flexibility in feeding water and allow for less down time in the case of a break, said Thomas Holloway, sanitary engineer.
Water sources
Water for the Four Townships District is purchased from Consumers Water of Ohio, while water in the Liberty system comes from Niles by way of Girard.
The line would be inadequate to supply the entire system with Niles water, however, Holloway said.
Closing the 3,300-foot gap between water systems will encourage development along the mostly undeveloped stretch of state Route 193, he said.
Developers would be charged for a portion of the cost of building the line when they tap in, he said.
Holloway is in the process of negotiating with Consumers and several public water systems for a contract to supply water to the Four Townships system. The contract with Consumers expires next year.
