Teen sentenced for shooting

LISBON -- An East Liverpool teen was sentenced to a potential maximum of six years behind bars.
Perry Rummel, 17, of Globe Street was sentenced Thursday by Judge Thomas Baronzzi of Columbiana County juvenile court for an October shooting.
Rummel pleaded guilty in April to three counts of felonious assault and one count of receiving stolen property, which involves the handgun used in the crime.
The teen previously was designated as a "serious youthful offender," making him eligible to serve part of his sentence in an adult prison after turning 18. He faced a maximum 28 years in prison, but a six-year term was recommended by the county prosecutor's office.
After serving three years in a juvenile detention facility, Rummel's progress toward rehabilitation will be evaluated. The evaluation will determine whether any of the remaining three years of the sentence should be served in an adult prison, or whether he should be released, Dane Walton, the juvenile court's chief probation officer, explained today.
Rummel fired a handgun at a car in East Liverpool. Alvin Buntin, 44, of 1554 Globe St., East Liverpool, was hit seven times by gunfire. He has recovered.
The car's other two occupants weren't hit.
Authorities have said Rummel may have believed that Buntin owed money to a person with whom Rummel lived.
