SHARON SPEEDWAY Dale Blaney awaiting Outlaws' arrival
The series makes just its third visit to the 3/8-mile track Friday.
HARTFORD -- Fresh off his All-Star series win at Lawrenceburg Speedway Monday, Dale Blaney will try to continue his winning ways at Sharon Speedway Friday during the O'Reilly World of Outlaws event.
Driving the Fritz Andrews-owned, George Fisher-powered Maxim No. 72B, Blaney will take on World of Outlaws regulars like Danny "The Dude" Lasoski, "King of the Outlaws" Steve Kinser, Mark Kinser, Jason Sides and Daryn Pittman when the series makes just its third visit to the 3/8-mile track.
Slight advantage
The track may give a slight edge to Blaney, who manages the facility, along with his father, Lou, for his older brother and NASCAR Winston Cup driver, Dave Blaney. The youngest Blaney has raced at Sharon countless times and knows it from different angles -- like from behind the wheel of the water truck.
"I guess I may have a slight advantage," Blaney said. "I'm definitely familiar with this track, where as most of the Outlaws regulars have only raced here twice. But I think more than knowing the track, having the local fans behind me will be a big factor."
Blaney certainly doesn't need a "home track advantage" to win. Just Monday he earned his 41st All-Star series victory, putting him eighth on the series' career feature win list. While running in the World of Outlaws series, Blaney earned Rookie-of-the-Year honors (1998) and chalked up wins in the series' most prestigious events, the Historical Big One (1998) and the King's Royal (2000), both at Eldora.
"Dale obviously knows how to win and will certainly be one to watch Friday night," said Sharon Speedway co-owner Dave Blaney. "He led every lap in his win Monday night, so I think his team has momentum and will give the Outlaws regulars a run for their money. It would be great to have Dale in victory lane Friday night."
Friday's World of Outlaws show is presented by JD Byrider and WFMJ-TV 21 and will include a Mod Lite race. Dexter the Clown also will be on hand to entertain young and old alike.
