Man arrested in teen's death
YOUNGSTOWN -- Latrell Jackson, 21, of Hilton Avenue was arrested early today and charged with the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy who died Sunday afternoon.
Jackson is accused of killing William C. Lee of East Dewey Avenue. The shooting took place at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at 843 Woodford Ave., the site of an aggravated robbery on the city's South Side.
Jackson was arrested on charges of murder, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. He was booked into the Mahoning County jail pending arraignment today in municipal court.
Lee, who was shot in the abdomen, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Police said that an Aurora Drive couple went to the Woodford Avenue house to buy car rims and music and, while there, were held against their will and robbed. The victims identified two of the three suspects as Lee and Jackson, reports show.
The victims said the robbers took $400 and jewelry. The male victim said his eyes were covered with duct tape and he was placed in the rear seat of his Ford Explorer.
The man told police that he heard gunfire, ripped the duct tape off his face and saw that Lee had been shot.
According to reports, Jackson was overheard saying that he shot Lee accidentally, contending the gun had a hair trigger.
