Patrolman Mark Gillette and Detective Sgt. John Kelty stopped at Glenwood and Sherwood avenues about 9:30 p.m. Friday because a large crowd had gathered. They saw a man on Sherwood with a handgun partially covered by a towel arguing with a man on the other side of the street.
Police yelled for the first man to drop the gun. Instead, he turned and pointed it at Gillette, who fired a shot which hit the man's car.
