SANDLOTS Livi wins, Rondinelli falters in NABF event; teams will meet today



Jolly Joe's and one of two Astro Falcons teams won in tournament play.
STRUTHERS -- Livi Steel stayed alive in the NABF Regional tournament with a 16-hit attack Friday as it eliminated the defending champion Huntington Hounds 12-5 at Cene Park.
Phil Butch had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs, while Joe Skocik had three hits for Livi, which will play Rondinelli in the losers bracket game today at 10 a.m.
Mike DeCola, Mike Busin and Drew Mullee had two hits each; one of Mullee's hits was a double. DeCola and Shawn Carr had two RBIs each.
Joel Basta pitched three innings of relief for the win, striking out five and walking four.
Chase Day had three RBIs for the Hounds.
Batting Practice 4, Rondinelli 2
STRUTHERS -- Rondinelli Tuxedo managed just three hits as it fell to the Batting Practice Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs, out of the Pittsburgh area, will play Beckley Bash in the winners bracket at 3 p.m.
Eric Drobitij pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs, striking out seven. Jason Zoeller had two hits for the winners.
Rondinelli's Justin Byler had two of the three hits, while Rick Vickers took the loss on the mound.
Beckley Bash 7, Lincoln Park Rails 5
In a sloppy game that saw a total of 11 errors, Beckley Bash held off a late rally in the seventh inning by Lincoln Park Rails of Michigan for its second straight win.
Ontario 16, Ohio Yankees 5
The Blue Jays scored 16 runs on as many hits to eliminate the Yankees.
Kevin Brown hit a two-run home run to highlight the eight-run second inning for the Blue Jays.
Jordan Ripco had three hits and four RBIs, while Nathan McLaren went the first five innings for the win. He did not walk a batter and had four strikeouts.
Michael Wyatt had three hits and two RBIs for the Yankees.
AABC Connie Mack
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Astro Falcons bowed out Friday in the AABC Connie Mack Regional as it lost to the Michigan Elite team 8-6.
Earlier in the day, Astro Falcons, behind 4-1, rallied to edge Illinois Lightning 5-4 in a consolation contest.
John Morris pitched three shutout innings of relief for the win. He had four strikeouts.
Frank Turocy had a single and a triple with two RBIs, while Jim Eimiller drove in the game-winner with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring Billy Christian, who had doubled.
NABF Junior World Series
NORTHVILLE, Mich. -- The Astro Falcons' Joe Rosco pitched a complete game for a 4-1 win against Northville in the NABF Junior World Series.
Jonathan Grist had an RBI single, while Adam Wigley had two hits for the Class Little b League team.
AABC Stan Musial
HOWLAND -- Jolly Joe's of the Class AA League rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning, as it turned back Lake County Knights 5-3 in the AABC Stan Musial tournament Friday.
Nick Guerrieri led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Giancarlo Silvestri was hit by a pitched ball and Gary Hinkson walked to load the bases. Mark Nightingale singled home Guerrieri and Silvestri. Hinkson scored on a fielder's choice.
George Rohan worked 3 2/3 innings in relief to pick up the win. Nightingale went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs.
