PA. PARKS McConnell's Mill/Moraine



Summer events for children, as well as several nature programs, are on tap for this month and August at Moraine and McConnell's Mill state parks, near Portersville, Pa.
MORAINE
The park has summe r programs as part of the Youth Environmental Learning Series for children to learn more about the environment and the natural world. The programs are open to children ages 4-13, and preregistration is required.
Junior naturalist: A program about insects will be from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 7-10, and is open to children 9-13.
Touch 'n' Grow: Available to 4- and 5-year-olds, this three-day event will be from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 14-16.

MCCONNELL'S MILL
Bats: A naturalist will conduct this hourlong program and will discuss facts and dispel myths about these flying mammals. Meet at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Old Mill.
Black Flies of Pennsylvania: A naturalist will be at the Kildoo picnic area from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 3 to provide information about these insects, such as why they bite, what to do if bitten, and what the state is doing to control the population of the flies.
Corn grinding: The park also has two, half-hour corn grinding demonstrations beginning at 1 and 3 p.m., as well as two, 45-minute historical Grist Mill tours starting at 2 and 4 p.m. Both programs are on Saturdays and Sundays throughout August and are at the Old Mill.
