NEW CASTLE Council hires two attorneys
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City council agreed to hire two attorneys to handle special cases for the city.
Atty. David Mojock of New Castle will be paid $150 an hour to serve as the council's solicitor during a personnel hearing Tuesday. City Solicitor James Manolis said he will be serving as solicitor on behalf of city administration in the hearing and cannot act on council's behalf also.
Immigration attorney Mark Knapp of Pittsburgh was hired to work for $220 an hour not to exceed $2,000. Manolis said Knapp will handle paperwork concerning a new employee in the city zoning department who is a citizen of Argentina.
Veronica Elias was hired in April as assistant zoning officer for the city. She recently completed her master's degree at the University of Akron and must convert her student visa to a working visa, Manolis said. The employer is responsible for handling the change, he said.
Elias is expected to begin work Aug. 4, said Councilwoman Patricia May. The new assistant zoning officer will live in the city and is the process of becoming a United States citizen, May added.
