Thorntons observe 50th anniversary on Mexican Riviera cruise, at brunch



XYOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thornton, 1539 Medford Ave., began the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary during a cruise to the Mexican Riviera and continued the celebration during a brunch held in their honor July 20 at Bruno's Restaurant in Poland.
Invitations for the brunch were issued by their family, James and Deborah Thornton of Youngstown and their three grandchildren. The couple had two other sons, Michael and Bryan, who are deceased.
Mr. Thornton and the former Dorothy O'Hara were married July 18, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church, where they are members.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked 37 years for East Ohio Gas Co. as a high-pressure supervisor until retiring in 1990. He is now employed in the family business, Thornton and Son Mechanical Contracting. He is a charter member of Mahoning County Gaelic Society and a member of American Legion Post 0472 and East Side Kiwanis.
His wife served as office manager at Thornton and Son until retiring in 2002. She is a member of Sacred Heart Ladies Guild.
