SCRAPPERS NOTEBOOK From Cafaro Field

Movin' on up: The Cleveland Indians promoted pitchers Shane Wallace and Ignacio Montano. A left-hander, Wallace was sent to Double-A Akron. In eight games and 112/3 innings for the Scrappers, Wallace had a 5.40 earned-run average as a reliever. Montano has been traveling a lot lately. He started the season at Class-A Lake County before coming to Mahoning Valley. He then spent three days at Akron prior to returning to the Scrappers. Now, he's going back to Lake County. In five games with Mahoning Valley, Montano pitched 42/3 innings, with a 15.43 ERA.
Leading off: Mike Conroy has assumed the leadoff spot in the Scrappers' batting order. He's held that position for about a week. "I've had him in different spots of the lineup," manager Ted Kubiak said. "I can put him anyplace right now. He's got a little bit of speed. But we haven't gotten anybody on base to even do anything offensively."
Sharing praise: Kubiak was asked who's been catching his eye, despite the Scrappers' 10-game losing streak. The list was extensive. "I love [Brad] Snyder's swing. The ball jumps off his bat," Kubiak said. "The ball jumps off of [Ryan] Mulhern's bat. The ball jumps off of [Kevin] Kouzmanoff's bat. [Ryan] Garko has hit the ball well. Conroy has been outstanding since extended spring [training]. He's been consistent. [Jesus] Colmenter has gotten his hits. We just need to start stringing some of these together."
Upcoming schedule: The Scrappers will continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters, a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, beginning tonight. Juan Lara (0-1, 4.32 ERA) gets the start for the Scrappers.
