Officials test objectfound in inmate's food
WARREN -- A woman inmate told officials at the Trumbull County jail she found what she thinks was a piece of a mouse tail in her food.
Ernie Cook, chief of operations, said the inmate found the object on her lunch tray Monday afternoon.
"We think it is part of a chicken vein, but we gave it to the city health department, and they will have it tested," Cook said.
He hopes to have the results back in a few days.
Party for readers
NEWTON FALLS -- A party will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 1 in the public library at 204 S. Canal St. for children from kindergarten through sixth grade who participated in the library's READiscover Ohio summer reading activities.
In addition, the Gamers' Arena will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6 in the Palmer Meeting Room on the library's second floor. Participants may use the library's games or bring their own.

Kidspace open house
WARREN -- Kidspace Child Care Center, a program of Catholic Charities Regional Agency, will have an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday to show off its newly remodeled facilities.
Kidspace is on the first floor of Sts. Cyril and Methodius School at Laird Avenue and High Street.
Rock 'n' Roll Cruiseis set for Saturday
SHARON, Pa. -- The weather may have been lousy the first part of this week, but sunshine and temperatures in the mid-70s are predicted for the Rock 'n' Roll Cruise in downtown Sharon on Saturday.
The East State Street business district, from Irvine Avenue to Railroad Avenue, will be closed for the event, and The Rodfathers of Butler, a car club featuring dozens of hot rods, will set up a cruise-in on the street.
Cars are to begin arriving around 10 a.m. Cruise-in hours are noon to 8 p.m.
Entertainment begins at 2 p.m. with Billy Smooth and the House Rockers and Come Together (a Beatles tribute band) as the opening acts.
Brass Taxi will perform at 4 p.m., and Johnny Angel and The Halos will take the stage at 6 p.m.
Food vendors will set up throughout the downtown area, and merchants plan promotions.
The Vocal Group Hall of Fame, 98 E. State St., will be open for free tours during the show.
Argument over womanends in 2 getting shot
YOUNGSTOWN -- An argument over a woman led to the shooting of two Cameron Avenue men.
Police said Edward P. Watson, 20, got into an argument with a 22-year-old Shehy Street man who accused Watson of "inappropriate behavior with his girlfriend."
The two got into a fistfight about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday near Watson's home on Cameron. The Shehy Street man got a handgun from a car and fired three to four shots at Watson and his friend, Paul C. Jackson, 37, before fleeing, police said.
Watson was shot in the lower back and Jackson was shot in the left forearm.
The shooter remained at large this morning.
Boy reports robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 17-year-old Fairview Avenue boy told police he was robbed of $150 at gunpoint as he was leaving McDonald's on Mahoning Avenue about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with a shaved head and a short beard.
Cab driver reportsgunpoint robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 75-year-old American Cab Co. driver told police he was robbed at gunpoint about 2:30 a.m. today on Wick Avenue.
The driver said he picked up two men on Glenwood Avenue, and was told by them to stop on Wick, where one man grabbed him from behind and the other pointed a small black revolver to his head demanding money.
The driver said the only money he had was the $10 they paid him for the cab fare.
The robbers ran from the scene with the driver's wallet, his credit cards, a brown leather Bible, store receipts, a string of keys, an address book and a handicap parking placard.
