Angels 3, Devil Rays 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Ramon Ortiz allowed an unearned run and three hits over seven innings as the Anaheim Angels stopped a season-high five-game losing streak.
Ortiz (12-7) kept the Devil Rays hitless in eight at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Tim Salmon had two RBIs for the World Series champions. Brendan Donnelly and Troy Percival, who worked the ninth for his 21st save, completed the three-hitter.
Joe Kennedy (3-7) gave up three runs and six hits in eight innings.
Athletics 10, Royals 0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tim Hudson (8-4) allowed one hit in seven innings, combining with John Halama on a three-hitter.
Erubiel Durazo hit two homers and drove in three runs for Oakland, which handed Kansas City only its second shutout loss this year.
Eric Chavez homered and drove in three runs for the Athletics, and Adam Piatt and Ramon Hernandez hit solo homers.
Orioles 12, Rangers 6
BALTIMORE -- Jay Gibbons homered and drove in four runs as Baltimore extended a winning streak to six for the first time since June 2000.
Robert Machado also homered and B.J. Surhoff had three hits for the Orioles, who completed a 6-0 homestand.
Hank Blalock and Einar Diaz homered, and Alex Rodriguez had four hits for the Rangers, who have lost seven of nine.
Mariners 10, Twins 8
MINNEAPOLIS -- Randy Winn capped a five-run sixth inning with a two-run homer as Seattle rallied past Minnesota.
The AL West-leading Mariners stopped a three-game losing streak, which matched their season high.
Minnesota had won five straight following the All-Star break but dropped to 49-50 and fell behind Chicago into third place in the AL Central, 51/2 games behind division-leading Kansas City.
Red Sox 7, Tigers 4
BOSTON -- Derek Lowe pitched eight strong innings and Kevin Millar and Jason Varitek hit back-to-back homers in the fourth off Mike Maroth (5-14) as Boston beat Detroit.
Lowe (11-4) gave up homers to Eric Munson and Dmitri Young but allowed just four other hits. The sinkerballer recorded 18 outs on grounders, struck out four and walked none. Alan Embree gave up Carlos Pena's homer in the ninth.
Bill Mueller also homered for Boston, which moved 21/2 games behind AL East leader New York with its fourth straight win.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Mets 7, Phillies 5
PHILADELPHIA -- Ty Wigginton, Jason Phillips and Roger Cedeno each had two RBIs, leading the Mets.
Steve Trachsel (9-6) gave up four runs -- three earned -- and six hits in 51/3 innings. New York took two games from the Phillies after losing four straight in Atlanta.
Dan Wheeler got the final out for his second save, striking out Pat Burrell with runners on second and third.
Marlins 9, Expos 1
MIAMI -- Carl Pavano pitched a four-hitter as Florida beat Montreal and dropped the Expos to .500 for the first time since April 9.
Derrek Lee had four RBIs, and Luis Castillo went 4-for-4 for the Marlins.
Brewers 6, Reds 4
CINCINNATI -- Bill Hall drove in runs with a triple and a double in his first start of the season, and Milwaukee held on for a victory.
The NL Central's lowliest teams split their two-game series.
The Reds hit two batters -- one with the bases loaded -- and the majors' worst defense committed two more errors, setting up an unearned Milwaukee run.
Braves 8, Cubs 4
ATLANTA -- Greg Maddux won his third straight start to go over .500 for the first time this season and Vinny Castilla hit a two-run homer.
Maddux (9-8) allowed two runs, five hits and no walks in seven innings. He stifled the streaking Cubs, who scored 31 runs on 41 hits in their two previous games.
The Braves won for the 14th time in 16 games and stretched their NL East lead over Philadelphia to a season-high 101/2 games.
Andruw Jones, who went 2-for-4, had his sixth consecutive two-hit game and drove in two runs. Chipper Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Marcus Giles was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Braves.
Atlanta never trailed, scoring a run in the first off Sergio Mitre (0-1), making his major league debut, on an RBI double by Chipper Jones that scored Giles.
Giants 3, Diamondbacks 1
SAN FRANCISCO -- Damian Moss pitched seven strong innings and San Francisco beat Arizona ace Curt Schilling for the second time in 10 days to win their sixth straight.
Marquis Grissom had two hits, including an RBI single, and the Giants increased their NL West lead to nine games over the second-place Diamondbacks. It is San Francisco's largest margin since finishing 11 games ahead of the Dodgers in 2000.
Barry Bonds had an RBI single in the first and Pedro Feliz singled in a run in the second.
Dodgers 5, Rockies 2
LOS ANGELES -- Paul Lo Duca had three hits and three RBIs and Shawn Green added three hits with a pair of doubles as Los Angeles beat Colorado.
Hideo Nomo (11-8) won for the fifth time in seven decisions, allowing two runs and six hits in seven innings and improving his career record against the Rockies to 8-2. One of the runs off him was unearned, the result of a fielding error by third baseman Adrian Beltre.
Padres 3, Cardinals 2
SAN DIEGO -- Oliver Perez pitched seven solid innings and Rondell White drove in two runs, lifting San Diego Padres over St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cardinals fell four games behind first-place Houston in the NL Central. They also got bad news before the game when they learned right-hander Matt Morris has a fractured right index finger after getting hit by a line drive Monday night.
Morris was placed on the 15-day disabled list and is expected to miss three-to-six weeks.
Perez (4-4) allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one.
