WARREN -- The Trumbull County recorder is extending office hours to accommodate people eager to record documents before fees double next month.
From July 23 to 31, the recorder's office will be open to record documents from 7 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The office won't open for other business until the usual time, 8:30 a.m.
The state Legislature increased recording fees to help balance the budget and support the Ohio Housing Trust Fund.
The fee to record a two-page deed, for example, jumps from $14 to $28.
Promoted to captain
LORDSTOWN -- A 25-year veteran of the village police department is now a captain.
Officer Terry Campbell, 54, was promoted Monday by Mayor Arno Hill.
Campbell has been with the department since 1978 and has served as community policing officer since 1998.
He was one of three full-time officers to apply for the captain's job, left vacant last month when Brent Milhoan was named chief, succeeding William Catlin.
Lyntz Road to getreduced speed limit
LORDSTOWN -- A section of village road will have a different speed limit by the end of the month.
Citing an increased number of speeders since the road was paved, Mayor Arno Hill lowered the limit from 45 to 35 mph along Lyntz Road.
The change will take effect when the street department erects signs with the new limit.
Laptop computer stolen
STRUTHERS -- A laptop computer containing statistics for the Class B and Mickey Mantle baseball season and post-season tournaments was stolen from the press box at Cene Field over the weekend.
The burglary occurred between 3 and 10:15 a.m. Saturday, the police report states.
Charged with DUI
STRUTHERS -- Kathleen O'Brien, 47, of Woodbine St., Warren, will appear in municipal court Feb. 13 on charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment.
O'Brien was arrested in a July 16 traffic stop on Midlothian Blvd.
She told police she was on her way home from the Alice Cooper concert at B & amp;B Backstage in Boardman and was trying to find her way to U.S. Route 422.
O'Brien refused to take a Breathalyzer test, police report.
Her 12-year-old son was a passenger.
Road to close for month
YOUNGSTOWN -- Beard Road, between Columbiana Road and state Route 617 in Springfield Township, will be closed for a month while the Mahoning County Engineer's office replaces a bridge.
The road will close Thursday and work is expected to be completed Aug. 22.
Traffic will be detoured along Columbiana Road, state Route 165 and Route 617.
Lisbon Road, between Calla and Western Reserve roads in Green Township, also will close Thursday while crews from the engineer's office replace a culvert. The road should reopen the same day.
Traffic will be detoured along Calla Road and U.S. Route 62.
Salem man robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 22-year-old Salem-area man said he was robbed at gunpoint at a friend's house on Butler Avenue.
The victim told police he was playing chess and video games at his friend's house at 1:50 a.m. today when two other men at the house pulled a gun and demanded his wallet.
The two robbers fled with $400.
Man shot in right hand
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 24-year-old Youngstown man was shot in the right hand on Erie Street.
Police said Joseph Croom, of Cottage Grove Avenue, refused to talk about the shooting at 6:15 p.m. Monday, except to say he had no idea why he was shot and didn't see who shot him.
Police said they found two bullet holes in the left front door of Croom's car, with the shots being fired from inside the car.
