UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Leslie Height of Youngstown is one of 39 members inducted this spring into the university's Delta Omega Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Lisa N. Calutti of Youngstown has been accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a selective, national, nonprofit honors organization that recognizes first- and second-year undergraduate students.
MIAMI UNIVERSITY, Oxford
English and journalism major Vanessa K. Schutz of Canfield has been inducted into two honor societies: the university's Beta Chapter of Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honor Society for scholarship, leadership and service; and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In the Beta chapter, she was nominated vice president of rituals, to orient incoming freshmen. The 2003 Canfield High School graduate will enter her sophomore year this fall. She is the daughter of Ronald and Lisbeth Schutz.
DENISON UNIVERSITY, Granville
Recently graduated biology major Matthew Tomko of Youngstown received the Heritage Scholarship and the E. Clark Morrow and Irma Hudson Morrow Pre-Law Scholarship. The 1999 Ursuline High School graduate is the son of Christine and Timothy Tomko.
Erin Cope of Damascus, a recent communication and education studies graduate, received the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges Scholarship and a Distinguished Leadership Award for seniors who enhance the quality of life of the community. Among her activities, she volunteered with the America Reads program through the Denison Community Association, was chairwoman of the Student Activities Council, and was a member of the Rho Lambda honor society. A 1999 graduate of West Branch High School, she is the daughter of Paula and Michael Cope.
Senior biology major Thomas Masters of Boardman has been inducted into the Alpha Epsilon Delta international premedical honor society. Masters, a 2000 graduate of Boardman High School, is the son of Jane and Tom Masters.
Senior psychology major Joanne Vaughn of Warren has been selected as a Denison Battelle Scholar, a program that supports student participation in research projects. Vaughn will help examine "Kidney Gene Expression Signatures Following Injection of Gelatin Microparticles." The 2000 graduate of Howland High School is the daughter of Karen and Paul Vaughn.
Junior psychology major Benjamin Wagner of Columbiana has been selected as a Hughes Research Assistant and will collaborate with a faculty member on "Stability and Change in Children's Play Opportunities in a Small Town: A Retrospective Study." A 2001 graduate of Columbiana High School, he is the son of Cathie and Ray Wagner.
