BEAVER TOWNSHIP Officials restrict adult business sites

Trustees approved modifications to a development plan along Sharrott Road.
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees amended the township's zoning ordinance to provide a provision for sexually oriented, or adult, businesses.
The amendment specifies those businesses, including but not limited to adult book stores, theaters and dance clubs, only may be located in an area of the township along Route 7 near the Ohio Turnpike.
The trustees agreed to amend the zoning ordinance at Tuesday's special meeting in response to a recommendation made by the township zoning and planning commission earlier this year.
The township's zoning ordinance did not previously address adult businesses, and officials said the amendment was needed to restrict where those businesses could be established.
Beaver Lakes
In other business, the trustees approved modifications to the Beaver Lakes Development plan, which is to be located along Sharrott Road.
The original plan called for the development to include a golf driving range and 77 single-family homes. Township officials were against having a driving range in the plan, however, so developers eliminated it, instead using that space to increase the number of single-family dwellings to 108.
The modified plan also calls for all roads at the development to be private. Developers previously had asked for various roads at the development to be public, calling for the township to maintain them. Township officials, however, denied that request.
