BOSTON -- Manny Ramirez went 4-for-4 with his 23rd homer and Boston hit a season-high nine doubles. Boston had 18 hits and batted around twice in a game for the second time this season. Ramirez has six hits in his last eight at-bats. John Burkett (8-4) allowed three runs in five innings, improving to 6-0 against Detroit. Jeremy Bonderman (3-14) gave up seven runs and eight hits in two-plus innings.
Blue Jays 8, Yankees 0
NEW YORK -- Former NBA player Mark Hendrickson (6-6), sent to the minors July 9, returned and allowed five hits in seven innings in a game shortened to 71/2 innings by rain. Vernon Wells homered twice and drove in three runs, and Eric Hinske and Chris Woodward each had two RBIs.
Devil Rays 3, Angels 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Rob Bell (2-2) allowed one run and six hits in 71/3 innings. Angels third baseman Troy Glaus left with a bruised right shoulder during the third inning. Anaheim said X-rays were normal and Glaus was day to day. Aaron Sele (6-7) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings.
Orioles 3, Rangers 2
BALTIMORE -- Pat Hentgen (2-5) allowed two runs and six hits in 61/3 innings to stop a career-high five-game losing streak. Jorge Julio worked the ninth for his 22nd save. R.A. Dickey (4-5) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings. B.J. Surhoff homered for Baltimore.
Twins 5, Mariners 4
MINNEAPOLIS -- Chris Gomez hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning to lead Minnesota. Torii Hunter homered and Shannon Stewart went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Twins. Mark McLemore keyed a four-run seventh with a two-run double for the Mariners. Juan Rincon (2-3) struck out both batters he faced in the eighth for the victory.
Athletics 6, Royals 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rich Harden allowed one run and four hits over seven innings, struck out four and walked two in his major league debut. Oakland drew five straight walks with two outs in the ninth to break a 1-all tie. Pinch-hitter Chris Singleton lined a one-out single off Sean Lowe (1-1), Jason Grimsley forced home the go-ahead run with a walk to Ramon Hernandez, Scott Hatteberg followed with a walk and Nate Field walked pinch-hitter Billy McMillon.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 15, Braves 6
ATLANTA -- Sammy Sosa homered and drove in four runs, Moises Alou had four hits and five RBIs and the Cubs again broke loose. Tom Goodwin matched a career high with five hits and scored four times and Alex Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs. The Cubs finished with a season-high 21 hits. Sosa homered for the 10th time since July 1.
Mets 8, Phillies 6
PHILADELPHIA -- Aaron Heilman earned his first major league victory and John Franco picked up his first save since 2001 as the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies. Cliff Floyd, Jason Phillips and Joe McEwing homered as the Mets stopped a four-game losing streak. Jim Thome hit his 25th homer and Bobby Abreu drove in four runs for the Phillies.
Marlins 4, Expos 1
MIAMI -- Mike Lowell drove in two runs and Josh Beckett pitched seven scoreless innings for Florida. In his first at bat, Lowell singled home Juan Pierre. Lowell drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth and also doubled in the eighth. Beckett (4-4) scattered seven singles. He struck out seven and walked one.
Reds 11, Brewers 2
CINCINNATI -- Jose Acevedo pitched seven shutout innings as a fill-in starter and Russell Branyan had a pinch-hit grand slam for Cincinnati. Jose Guillen also homered and drove in three runs for the Reds. Matt Kinney (6-8) gave up 12 hits and eight runs in six-plus innings.
Giants 5, Diamondbacks 4
SAN FRANCISCO -- Rich Aurilia and Yorvit Torrealba each drove in two runs during a sixth-inning rally for San Francisco. With the Giants trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Elmer Dessens (5-7) provided an opportunity for San Francisco when he loaded the bases with one out. He allowed a single to J.T. Snow and then a double to Marquis Grissom before intentionally walking slugger Barry Bonds. Jose Cruz Jr. struck out on a full-count, then Aurilia hit a two-run single to center off Dessens and Torrealba singled two batters later to bring in two more runs.
Rockies 4, Dodgers 1
LOS ANGELES -- Denny Stark got his first victory of an injury-plagued season and Bobby Estalella homered for Colorado. Stark (1-0) allowed a run and four hits in seven innings in his fourth start of the year. Brian Fuentes retired all four batters he faced and Justin Speier got the last two outs for his sixth save in seven chances.
Padres 5, Cardinals 4, 10 innings
SAN DIEGO -- Miguel Ojeda homered with one out in the 10th inning to give the San Diego Padres a win over St. Louis. Ojeda, who entered in the ninth as part of a double switch, hit a 3-2 pitch 397 feet into the left-field seats off Lance Painter (0-1). It was his third homer of the season. Jay Witasick (2-1) worked two perfect innings for the win.
