East Palestine Library accepts donations for annual book sale

EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine Memorial Public Library's Friends of the Library is accepting books and other materials in good condition for the annual book sale.
The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 7, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 at the library, 309 N. Market St.
Library Director Lisa Rohrbaugh said proceeds are usually about $2,000 from the summer sale. A smaller sale in February generated about $700, she said.
The Friends have bought reference books, children's department equipment and most of the compact discs in the library's audio collection, she said.
Donations through the Friends or directly to the library are more important than ever because of cuts in state funding to libraries, Rohrbaugh said.
Because of cuts in the state budget, there was no state money allocated for public libraries in July, she said.
The library could use more books and videos, etc., for the sale, Rohrbaugh said. Current periodicals and CDs in good condition also are needed.
Encyclopedias more than 5 years old, paperbacks without covers, and technical or academic publications aren't needed, she said.
The book sale will include a Chinese auction by the Friends. The Junior Friends of the Library will offer face painting for a minimal charge.
