Bikes stolen in Salem
SALEM -- Police received a report that two bicycles were stolen in the past two days from a residence on the 180 block of East Third Street.
The crimes were reported at 3:09 p.m. Monday.
Batteries stolen
SALEM -- Two 12-volt batteries were taken from a bulldozer at a construction site on the 2800 block of East State Street, police said. The theft occurred between Friday evening and 10:28 a.m. Monday.
Office burglarized
SALEM -- Items were stolen from the Office On Aging in the Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.
After entering the building through a window, the thieves stole a computer and a video-cassette recorder, police said.
The crime was reported at 9:08 a.m. Monday.
Cars, boat broken into
SALEM -- Police said radio and stereo equipment and compact disks were taken from two cars and a boat parked in owners' yards over the weekend.
Police said someone took a stereo from the dashboard of a car in the 500 block of Ellsworth Avenue between 11 p.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police said someone removed a CD player and marine radio Sunday from a boat in the 500 block of Ellsworth Avenue.
Police said someone took a stereo and 24 CDs from a car in the 1100 block of Newgarden Avenue after 4 a.m. Sunday.
Boat tours of Lake Arthur
PORTERSVILLE, Pa. -- Guided tours of Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park aboard the pontoon board Nautical Nature are available for up to 50 people. Cruises go out at 2 p.m. Thursdays; 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays; and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Sundays.
The cost is $5.25 for adults, $4.25 for seniors and $2.50 for children. The pontoon boat is handicap-accessible.
Man shot in the hand
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 24-year-old Youngstown man was shot in the right hand on Erie Street.
Police said Joseph Croom of Cottage Grove Avenue refused to talk about the shooting, which occurred about 6:15 p.m. Monday, except to say he had no idea why he was shot and didn't see who shot him. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Police said they found two bullet holes in the left front door of Croom's 1996 Buick Regal and that the shots were fired from inside the car.
Robbed in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 22-year-old Salem-area man said he was robbed at gunpoint at a friend's house on Butler Avenue.
The victim told police he was playing chess and video games at his friend's house at 1:50 a.m. today when two other men at the home pulled a gun and demanded his wallet. The two robbers fled the home with $400.
Campbell break-in
CAMPBELL -- Police are investigating a break-in at a home on Delmar Street where nothing was reported missing, but photographs of the victim's son were mutilated and thrown into the toilet.
The break-in happened sometime last week while the 20-year-old resident was away. When she returned Sunday afternoon, the report says, the woman discovered her back door had been kicked in, her home ransacked, and all photographs of her son destroyed. Some of the pictures had been smeared with soap, others were in the bathroom sink and toilet, and a large one was stuck to a door with a knife.
Laptop taken at stadium
STRUTHERS -- A laptop computer containing the statistics for Class B and Mickey Mantle Baseball season and post-season tournaments was stolen from the press box at Cene Field over the weekend.
Police reports say that whoever is responsible apparently entered and exited the press box through a second-floor window, which could be accessed by someone standing on a railing at the top of the bleachers.
The burglary occurred between 3 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Saturday, the report states.
