AUSTINTOWN SCHOOL BOARD At Monday's meeting

Approved the first resolutions needed to place a five-year, 5.9-mill levy and a 27-year, 2.9-mill bond issue on the November ballot. The levy would raise about $3 million each year to pay for operating expenses, while the bond issue would allow the board to borrow $26 million to pay for the construction of a new junior high school to replace Austintown Middle School. In August, the board is expected to approve the final resolutions needed to place the levy and bond issue on the ballot.
Approved a resolution to increase the cost of lunch for elementary school pupils from $1.50 to $1.60, and for middle and high school pupils from $1.75 to $2. Assistant Superintendent Stan Watson said the cost of supplies needed to provide lunch has increased. The board last increased the cost of lunches in 2000-2001.
Thanked Superintendent Richard Denamen for his work in the district. Denamen will resign at the end of this month after 10 years as superintendent. He has worked in the district 30 years.
