KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Darrell May pitched eight sharp innings to win his fifth straight start and Aaron Guiel hit a two-run double as the Kansas City Royals topped the Seattle Mariners 5-1 Saturday night.
May (5-4) allowed three hits, none after Dan Wilson's second inning double. He has a 1.50 ERA in his past five starts. In that span, May has allowed 25 hits and six earned runs in 36 innings.
Kansas City's outfielders made several superb plays to back May.
Carlos Beltran reached over the center-field fence to rob Wilson of a home run in the seventh and Guiel had seven putouts, including a diving catch of Ichiro Suzuki's line drive to right to lead off the eighth.
Big finish
The Royals scored three runs in the eighth. Michael Tucker and Angel Berroa opened with singles and Gil Meche's throwing error on Brent Mayne's sacrifice allowed Tucker to score, while Berroa moved to third and Mayne went to second.
Guiel, who has driven in eight runs in his past nine game, doubled to right to score Berroa and Mayne.
Randy Winn homered, his third of the season, to left in the second on a 1-2 pitch for the only Mariners' run.
Mariners right-hander Meche (10-6) retired the first nine batters he faced before Guiel singled to leadoff the fourth. Meche is 0-3 in four July starts. The Royals tied it in the fifth, which Tucker led off with a walk and scored on Mayne's double into the right-field corner. Mayne extended his hitting streak to a season-high seven games.
The Royals went ahead in the sixth. Desi Relaford, who missed the previous three games with a sore left wrist, doubled to open the inning and advanced to third on Beltran's bunt single.

BALTIMORE -- Baltimore made it easy for Sidney Ponson to earn his career-high 13th win, scoring seven runs in the first two innings.
Luis Matos homered and drove in three runs, and Jeff Conine and B.J. Surhoff each had two RBIs for the Orioles, who will seek to complete their first four-game sweep of the Angels since 1965.
Baltimore is 7-1 against the defending world champions, including 5-0 at home.
Ponson (13-5) allowed four runs -- three earned -- and nine hits in 61/3 innings for his 12th win in 15 starts. He struck out three and walked two in improving to 6-0 against the Angels, the only AL team that has never beaten the right-hander.

White Sox 6, Tigers 2
CHICAGO -- Nate Cornejo had a no-hitter for 62/3 innings. Then, in a matter of minutes, he had the loss.
Pinch-hitter Tony Graffanino lofted a three-run homer in the seventh off reliever Jamie Walker.
Cornejo (4-8) didn't allow a hit until Paul Konerko grounded a single between short and third with two outs in the seventh, starting a string of seven straight Chicago hits.
Jose Valentin followed with another single and then Joe Crede blooped an RBI single to center to cut Detroit's lead to 2-1 as Cornejo lost his shutout and his chance at finishing the game.
Manager Alan Trammell called on lefty reliever Walker and Graffanino delivered the third pinch-hit homer of his career.
