Korean War Memorial
AUSTINTOWN -- Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 137 of the Mahoning Valley will dedicate a new Korean War Memorial at 1 p.m. next Sunday at Veterans Park, Wickliffe Circle.
The memorial has names of 119 servicemen, five of whom are missing in action, and the rest killed in action, during the Korean War.
Robert H. Brothers of Niles is master of ceremonies for the dedication, and there will be a color guard, a 21-gun salute, and bagpipe and other music, including the United States and South Korean national anthems.
Chapter 137 President Zeno Foley will speak as well as Gold Star mother Tomasine Tsourakos. The featured speakers are Lt. Col. Gordon Ellis, Dr. Charles Sung, and Capt. John Boccieri. The memorial chairman is Bob Vitullo.
ACADEMY GRAD
Toth gets degree
Army 2nd Lt. Jason M. Toth graduated from the Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Toth, a son of Albert and Julie Toth of Green Township, is a 1999 graduate of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney High School.
Toth is enrolled in the Officers Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. When he completes the course in November, he will go to Fort Carson, Colo., where he will be assigned in a maintenance unit in the Army's Ordnance branch.

Patterson returns
Navy Seaman Anthony L. Patterson, son of Stacy L. and Daryl K. Patterson of New Castle, Pa., recently returned from the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Porter, home-ported in Norfolk, Va. Patterson is a 2002 graduate of Union Area High School, New Castle.
Quinn ends assignment
Navy Seaman Kuiana J. Quinn, granddaughter of Alberta L. Booker of Youngstown, recently completed a deployment in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.
Local Marines' port visit
Marine Corps Pfc. M.S. Fleming and Lance Cpls. Kristopher J. Conaway and Michael J. Yarina Jr., recently made a port visit to Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Camp LeJeune, N.C. The unit is aboard the USS Iwo Jima.
Conaway, son of Alice A. Conaway of Niles and John Conaway of Mineral Ridge, is a 2000 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School.
Fleming, son of Debbie L. and John E. Fleming of Canfield, is a 2001 graduate of Canfield High School.
Yarina, son of Michael J. Yarina of Canfield, joined the Marine Corps in June 2000.
VanBrocklin in Kuwait
Coast Guard Reserve Bosun's Mate 3 Robert VanBrocklin is serving in Kuwait as a member of Port Security Unit 309, home based in Port Clinton. VanBrocklin, activated in January and deployed in February, spend two months in Siracusa, Sicily, before PSU 309 was assigned as part of Naval Coastal Warfare Group 1 in the Persian Gulf providing security in a classified harbor.
He graduated in 1991 from Poland Seminary High School and in 1997 from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He is a son of Harry and Jeanette VanBrocklin of Poland.
Fincham visits Singapore
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Justin T. Fincham, son of JoEllen Fincham of Youngstown and Jack Fincham of Columbiana, recently made a port visit to Singapore while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, part of a battle group committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Western Pacific region. Fincham is a 1997 graduate of Youngstown Chaney High School.
