PENNSYLVANIA Road work problems inevitable this week
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will close a section of Lamor Road (Pa. Route 518) for three days next week to repair damage caused by a July 4 rainstorm.
The damaged area is down in a small valley and passes over Pine Run, which overflowed its banks in the storm, flooding the road and causing damage to the sides of the road.
Rushing water coming down both sides of the valley also destroyed the berms, leaving holes and deep ruts.
The road will be closed from Hofius Lane to Trout Island Road from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday while repairs are made.
Meanwhile, PennDOT said a resurfacing project on U.S. Route 62 will begin Thursday. It has a mid-October completion date.
I.A. Construction Co. of Franklin is being paid $1,786,600 to resurface a section of the road from Zahniser Road in Lackawannock Township to U.S. Route 19 in Mercer.
Motorists can expect delays.
There is also a potential for heavy traffic congestion on Interstate 80 in Mercer County. The eastbound and westbound right side lanes will be closed for concrete slab repair Monday through Friday next week between the Mercer Exit and mile post 21 just east of the I-79 interchange.
There are still repairs being made to I-79 in Mercer County and that work continues next week as well between I-80 and mile post 121 just north of the Mercer Exit and between mile posts 126 and 131 near the Greenville Exit.
One lane in each direction will be closed for resurfacing in both project areas.
