CANFIELD -- The deadline for registration forms and fees for 2003 Canfield Fair entries is Aug. 10. The only exceptions are entries in the hay, grain, floral and vegetable categories, which have later deadlines. All items for display must be delivered to the appropriate buildings during the times and days designated in the Official Premium List of the Mahoning County Agricultural Society or the Domestic Arts & amp; Crafts book, available at the fair office. Registration forms and fees may be submitted in person at the office or mailed to P.O. Box 250, Canfield 44406. For information, call (330) 533-4107.
Heroin-trafficking charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police jailed a city man Friday on a charge of aggravated trafficking in heroin. Reports say Hermon T. Benson, 56, of Wirt Street, was standing with a group of men outside an Otis Street apartment building Friday evening and tossed an object into nearby bushes as police approached. Police arrested Benson after officers looked in the bushes and retrieved a pill bottle containing six small packets of suspected heroin.
Charity golf outing set
KINSMAN -- The Warren Kiwanis Club will host the annual Children's Rehabilitation Center Charity Golf Outing on Aug. 22 at Bronzewood Golf Course. The event begins at 11 a.m. Proceeds are donated to the Children's Rehabilitation Center in Warren every year. The format is "four-person, two best balls." The outing is $65 per player and includes: 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, steak dinner, a $5,000 putting contest and hole-in-one packages on five holes, including a 2004 car. The outing is limited to 32 teams. Hole sponsorships are available for $75. A hole sponsorship and team entry combo is $300. Teams must register by Aug. 2. Beagle club youth day
HUBBARD -- Trumbull County American Rabbit Hound Association Beagle Club will have its annual youth day at 9 a.m. Aug. 9 at the club on John White Road. The objective is to teach young people and families the advantages of owning and training beagles and to promote sportsmanship. The day is for children age 4 and older. Those with purebred beagles can register them with the National Kennel Club and join the club. Food and drinks will be provided. Parents are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert.
