BASEBALL
NEO Continental Colt (ages 15-17)
Newton Falls 3, Girard FOP 1 -- Undefeated Newton Falls (23-0) won the first game of the best-of-three semifinal series as winning pitcher Brine McCartney gave up four hits while striking out seven. Mike Strunton had two hits. Girard's Tom Williams yielded six hits and struck out five batters while Mike Grumley had two hits.
Pony (ages 13-14)
Poland 17, Austintown 7 -- Ron Martino, Kevin Koval, Jason Simons, David White and Mike Petro had two hits apiece to lead Poland's 12-hit attack. Simons was the winning pitcher. For Austintown, Collin Hoelzel's three hits included a double.
NABF (ages 15-16)
The Astro Falcons need to win one game today to advance to next week's NABF World Series in Norville, Mich. The Falcons have won four games over the last two days at the Regional at London, Ontario:
Astro Falcons 3, Welland 2
Astro Falcons 14, Hamilton 3
Astro Falcons 6, Buffalo 1
Astro Falcons 15, Hamilton Astros 10
The Astro Falcons were the regular season champions of the Class Little b League with a 25-2 record before falling in the playoffs to Wolf Contracting.
SOFTBALL
Little League Junior Division (ages 13-14)
Poland 6, Canfield 3 -- Jenna Medina pitched a complete-game four-hitter as Poland won the district title and will represent the Mahoning Valley in the state tournament in Dayton that begins Friday. Medina struck out five batters. Cierra Urichich led Poland's offense with three hits. Krystal Rodriguez had two hits and scored three runs while Julia Johnston had two hits and scored twice. Allyson Kennedy doubled. Poland's roster includes Jenna Susany, Jamie Hardie, Lindsey Delsignore and Adriana DiMartino. For Canfield, Lauren Sulick struck out seven batters and gave up seven hits. Tricia Bettura had three hits.
Little League Junior Division (ages 9-10)
Poland 5, Lakeview 1 -- Erin Gabriel's no-hitter included 16 strikeouts. Jamie Clausan and Alyssa Shields had two hits apiece. Chelsea McCree double. Chelsea Kelligher pitched for Lakeview.
