MINERAL RIDGE -- Anyone who pays to have a haircut or a manicure July 27 can help a woman in need of a kidney transplant at the same time.
The Ritz Hair and Facial Designs salon at 3861 Main St.. (state Route 46) will have a cut-a-thon from 11 a.m to 3 p.m that day. There will be a minumum donation of $10, with all proceeds going to Joyce Juart, a Mineral Ridge woman who needs a kidney transplant.
In addition to hair-cuts, manicures will be given.
Karen Juart-Binion, Joyce's sister-in-law and a salon worker, is organizing the fund raiser. Joyce Juart has been married to Juart-Binion's twin brother for 30 years.
Juart is experiencing in-stage renal failure in one of her kidneys and has been on dialysis for 18 months. Juart-Binion said her sister-in-law is on the donor list at hospitals in Cleveland and Columbus.
"We're afraid she will not find a donor fast enough," Juart-Binion said. "The co-pay for a kidney transplant is phenomenal."
Rose Knopp, another salon worker, said they don't have a specific amount of money they hope to raise.
"We are looking to get as much as we possibly can," she said. "The more the better. [Juart] needs it."
Refreshments will be avaible at the salon during the cut-a-thon. For more information, contact Juart-Binion at (330) 652-8182 or (330) 505-0054.
