New Lordstown coach
LORDSTOWN -- The Lordstown board of education approved Jim Powers as coach of the varsity girls basketball team.
Powers, 35, was an assistant at Liberty last year. He also has held assistant coaching positions with the girls programs at Cardinal Mooney and Girard.
Hartzell golf outing
COITSVILLE -- Tee times are still available for the first Mike Hartzell Memorial golf outing on July 27 at Countryside golf course.

Fans' nightat Sharon
HARTFORD -- Reduced ticket prices and trip giveaways will be featured at Sharon Speedway's "Fan Appreciation Night."
Tickets for Saturday's show, sponsored by Gibson-Governor Insurance, will be $6 for adults and $3 for kids 12-15.
Fans also will have the opportunity to win one of three trips courtesy of Greenville, Pa.'s Anderson Coach and Travel. The company is providing a trip for two to Michigan International Speedway Aug. 16-17 for the Michigan 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race and the Cabela's 250 NASCAR Busch race, a trip for two to Michigan International Speedway Aug. 17 for the Michigan 400 and a trip for two to PNC Park for the Pirates-Atlanta Braves game Aug. 30.
Fans also will be eligible for giveaways from WNCD-FM (93.3) and Donnell Ford.
Also, the rescheduled Tony Stewart Night is Aug. 5. Tickets from the rained out June 12 show will be honored.
Golf winners
* ALLIANCE -- Ryan Spear of Hubbard was he winner in the 13-15 year age group as he shot 73 in the OGCOA junior golf series at Tannenhauf Golf Course.
* MENTOR -- Katie Jurenovich of Warren shot 52-46--98 to place sixth in the third 12-15 year old division in the North Coast Junior Golf Tour Thursday at Black Brook Country Club.
Lauren Weaver of Waite Hill fired 34-40--74 to win the division.
Cassano wins discus
CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- Sam Cassano of Austintown won the 15-16 boys discus during USA Track & amp; Field Association Region 5 competition recently. The 16-year-old Cassano, a sophomore-to-be at Fitch, threw the discus 146 feet. As one of the top four, Cassano qualified for the national championship meet in Miami, July 25-26.

Pistons, Hamiltonagree to deal
DETROIT -- Richard Hamilton agreed to a seven-year, $62 million deal with the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, a source within the league told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Boselli retires
HOUSTON -- Tony Boselli retired because of shoulder injuries. He never played a down for the Houston Texas, who picked him with their first selection in the 2002 expansion draft. Boselli was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and played eight years in the NFL.
NHL limits pads
NEW YORK -- The NHL will limit the height of goalie pads next season for the first time ever. The NHL announced that it was instituting a 38-inch limit on the length of goaltender pads. Previously, the only restriction was that the width not exceed 12 inches. The league estimated that about one-third of goalies wore pads that exceeded 38 inches last season.

Armstrong clingsto small lead
TOULOUSE, France -- Lance Armstrong clung to his small lead after the 11th stage of the Tour de France, finishing in 29th place.
Armstrong is 21 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Alexandre Vinokourov of Kazakhstan, in the overall standings. Vinokourov finished 30th with the same time as Armstrong.
Spain's Juan Antonio Flecha won the 95.2-mile stage in 3 hours, 29 minutes, 33 seconds.
