Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 2
BOSTON -- Roy Halladay won his 14th straight decision and Bobby Kielty had a homer and two singles in his Toronto debut. Halladay (14-2) allowed nine hits, striking out five and walking none in his second complete game of the season and seventh of his career. Boston starter Derek Lowe (10-4) had been unbeaten in 11 starts since a loss at Minnesota on May 11, but he allowed four runs in four innings. Three runs scored on Reed Johnson's bases-loaded double in the fourth that made it 4-0.
Orioles 2, Angels 1
BALTIMORE -- Rodrigo Lopez allowed five hits in seven innings and Jeff Conine homered as Baltimore ended Anaheim's five-game winning streak. Luis Matos had two hits and an RBI for the Orioles. Lopez (3-5) gave up one run, struck out five and walked three. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA in July after closing June with a 7.63 ERA.
Rangers 12, Devil Rays 6
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Juan Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with four RBIs to help Texas. Gonzalez hit his 24th homer of the season, a three-run drive, and added a run-scoring double. Donnie Sadler and Marcus Thames also homered for the Rangers, who have won seven of their last 11.
Twins 6, Athletics 2
MINNEAPOLIS -- Torii Hunter and A.J. Pierzynski each drove in two runs and Rick Reed pitched seven innings as Minnesota ended an eight-game losing streak. Jacque Jones went 3-for-5 in his return from the disabled list for Minnesota. Chris Singleton was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Oakland, which had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Royals 7, Mariners 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jose Lima won his sixth straight start but left with a groin injury as Kansas City won an ejection-filled game. Lima (6-0) allowed five hits in 51/3 innings, striking out five, walking two and hitting a batter. He lowered his ERA to 2.41 as the Royals improved to 7-0 in his starts. With a runner on first in the sixth, Lima bent over in pain after a 1-1 pitch to Randy Winn. Jason Grimsley relieved. Kansas City's Ken Harvey was ejected in the sixth inning by first base umpire Paul Emmel, who ruled the first baseman was off the bag as the Royals attempted to complete a double play on Willie Bloomquist's grounder to shortstop. Seattle manager Bob Melvin was ejected in the bottom of the eighth by plate umpire Joe West after Carlos Febles was hit for the second time in the game, Seattle pitcher Rafael Soriano also was tossed.
Tigers 10, White Sox 9
CHICAGO -- Dmitri Young homered and drove in three runs as Detroit battered Bartolo Colon in a game delayed more than three hours by rain. The Tigers led 9-1 in the fifth, but had to hang on after Chris Mears gave up a pair of homers in the ninth. With two outs, Carlos Lee hit a three-run shot, and Carl Everett followed with a solo blast to make it 10-9. Mears got Paul Konerko on a liner to left to finally end it. Colon (6-9) gave up five runs and seven hits, walking four and throwing two wild pitches.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Phillies, 5, Expos 2, 11 innings
PHILADELPHIA -- Marlon Byrd's two-out, three-run homer in the 11th inning lifted Philadelphia. The Phillies have won six of seven. Montreal has lost eight of 10. Jimmy Rollins started the 11th with a double off Tim Drew (0-2). Rollins was replaced by pinch runner Nick Punto after injuring himself running to second. Punto advanced to third on Pat Burrell's fly out to center. Pinch hitter Jason Michaels grounded out to third and Tomas Perez was intentionally walked
Byrd then hit a 1-0 pitch over the left-center field wall for his third homer. Byrd finished 4-for-5, and is hitting .412 (14-for-34) since moving up to the leadoff spot seven games ago.
Braves 3, Mets 2
ATLANTA -- Mark DeRosa's check-swing infield single in the ninth inning scored Vinny Castilla from third and gave Greg Maddux the win. The Braves loaded the bases with one out against John Franco (0-2). DeRosa then hit a dribbler to second baseman Joe McEwing, who couldn't come up with the ball as Castilla scored the winning run. Maddux (8-8) pitched an eight-hitter for his first complete game of the season. New York lost for the seventh time in eight games.
Diamondbacks 9, Padres 1
SAN DIEGO -- Curt Schilling won for the first time since returning from the disabled list. Steve Finley hit a three-run homer in the first inning to start the Diamondbacks' scoring barrage. Finley had three hits and Luis Gonzalez three runs. Schilling (5-4) allowed just one run -- unearned because of his error -- and eight hits in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked one in his second start since coming off the DL.
Dodgers 6, Cardinals 3
LOS ANGELES -- Hideo Nomo hit a two-run homer and an RBI double, and pitched six innings. Nomo (10-8) limited the Cardinals to two hits and one unearned run while walking four and striking out five. Rickey Henderson went 1-for-4, and Jeromy Burnitz was hitless in four at-bats in their Dodger debuts.
Giants 8, Rockies 4
SAN FRANCISCO -- Edgardo Alfonzo had three hits and drove in two runs and Rich Aurilia had two RBIs and doubled twice. Damian Moss (8-6) won for the first time in five starts and the Giants got their sixth victory in nine games. Colorado's Todd Helton went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, but the Rockies committed three errors in the first four innings.
