GRIP targets high-crime areas of the city, including Westlake Terrace on the North Side, the lower East Side, the lower West Side and a section of the South Side designated as a Weed and Seed area.
Police Chief Robert E. Bush Jr. said he considers the program to be successful. "We've made 87 arrests, the gun violence is down and we're getting bad people off the streets." Bush said GRIP will continue with some fine-tuning along the way. He praised the efforts of the federal and state agencies involved.
