Reynolds to stay in consortium until end of year
TRANSFER, Pa. -- The Reynolds School Board has agreed to remain a part of the Western Pennsylvania Schools Health Care Consortium until at least Jan. 1.
The board had voted earlier this year to drop out of the 12-school consortium as of July 1 but agreed to remain through the end of the year after the consortium sought a court injunction to prevent that move.
The consortium maintained that Reynolds hadn't followed its bylaws requiring it to give six months' notice of its plans. The case didn't get to court as the consortium and Reynolds reached an agreement to have the district stay until at least Jan 1.
Dr. Anthony Trosan, Reynolds superintendent, said his school board is continuing to examine the heath care issue and could still opt to leave the consortium after Jan. 1.
Sharon City School District is also a member of the consortium and announced it, too, would leave July 1.
Sharon was party to the same agreement reached between Reynolds and the consortium, and its school board voted last week to remain a member until at least Jan. 1.
Both Sharon and Reynolds officials had expressed dissatisfaction with consortium operations that resulted in large increases in health care costs this year.
