NEW YORK -- Chamique Holdsclaw had 24 points and 13 rebounds as Washington snapped an 11-game losing streak. Annie Burgess added 15 points and Murriel Page 11 for Washington (3-14), which tied a franchise record and dropped to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with the 11-game skid. Vickie Johnson scored 18 points to lead the Liberty (7-8), who lost their third in a row.
Sparks 80, Mercury 77, 2 OT
LOS ANGELES -- Mwadi Mabika scored 26 points, and Los Angeles overcame the absence of injured all-star Lisa Leslie to defeat Phoenix in double overtime. Mabika had four points for the Sparks (16-3) in the second overtime. Rookie Plenette Pierson had a season-high 26 points in 34 for Phoenix (3-15), which has lost eight of its last nine games. Rhonda Mapp, starting at center in place of Leslie, sent the game into overtime, making a four-foot jump shot with 2.9 seconds remaining in regulation. Leslie, the league's MVP, was placed on the injured reserve list for the first time in her career earlier Tuesday. Leslie will have to miss a minimum of three games under league rules. She bruised a bone in her right knee when she collided with Detroit's Swin Cash in Saturday's All-Star game. Tamecka Dixon added 18 points for Los Angeles, a winner of four straight games and seven of its last eight.
Storm 69, Comets 55
SEATTLE -- Sue Bird had 13 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds as Seattle ended Houston's four-game winning streak and moved into second place in the Western Conference, a half-game ahead of the Comets. The Storm (10-7) used a 13-2 run to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. Kamila Vodichkova and Lauren Jackson added 18 points apiece for the Storm. Houston (10-8), missing injured all-stars Cynthia Cooper and Tina Thompson, got 17 points from its third all-star, Sheryl Swoopes.
