WARREN -- A city police officer is no longer facing a disorderly conduct charge.
Wadsworth Municipal Court records state that the charge, filed against Sgt. Bill Boldin in March, has been dismissed. The court records do not stay why the charge was dismissed.
"I was confident that the charges were going to be dismissed," Boldin said Monday. "My attorney had discussions with the prosecutor and this is now dismissed. I'm relieved."
Boldin was charged after a March 9 bar fight at Bradley's in Wadsworth. The fight took place about 1 a.m., said Wadsworth Police Chief David Singleton.
Singleton said that Boldin had attended a wedding in Wadsworth and after a reception, a group went to the bar.
A fight broke out and Boldin said he was trying to break up the disturbance when police arrived. Boldin noted that he was not arrested at the scene but received a citation in the mail 13 days later.
Boldin, 34, has been a Warren police officer for about eight years.
He said he believes an internal investigation into the matter will also be dismissed since the charges were dropped. Police Chief John Mandopoulos could not be reached to comment.
Other problems
Boldin was accused of brutality during arrests March 15 at a teenage birthday party in Warren. Police say about 100 to 150 people -- mostly teenagers -- spilled onto North Park Avenue on March 15 after a birthday party ended at the Comfort Inn downtown.
Police reports state there were many fights and yelling when officers arrived. A 19-year-old man said Boldin hit him on the head with what he thinks was a flashlight. Boldin has denied the allegation.
Boldin was reprimanded in January for putting a weapon involved in the accidental shooting of an officer in the wrong place for evidence storage.
