POLAND Mother, son face charges
The mother faces two charges, including receiving stolen property.
POLAND -- Police arrested a 54-year-old Youngstown woman and her 33-year-old son after an incident involving stolen food from the Giant Eagle grocery store on Center Road.
Police reports say Anthony Deangelis of Grimm Heights Avenue, Struthers, was apprehended by Giant Eagle store personnel when he attempted to leave the store with about $107 worth of steaks and tomatoes. He is charged with one count of misdemeanor theft.
Police reports say waiting outside the store for Deangelis in a blue 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity with a peeled steering column was his mother, Lenora Deangelis, and his brother. She told police the car had been stolen then returned and she did not know where the keys were. The keys were later found in her purse, police said.
Officers searched the car and found a Giant Eagle shopping basket containing various items. Reports say Lenora Deangelis told police that the basket was placed in her trunk earlier that day but that she was unsure where she got it.
Police charged her with obstructing official business and receiving stolen property. She is free on $1,500 bond. Police did not charge the brother riding in the car.
Anthony Deangelis is in Mahoning County jail in lieu of $1,000 bond. They were both scheduled to appear in Struthers Municipal Court today.
