Planning commission recommends change
NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township Planning Commission is recommending that trustees approve a zoning change along Sharrott Road to allow a Columbus man to develop more than 100 acres there.
If the trustees agree to rezoning from agriculture to a planned unit development, Ed Barry, owner of Barry Development Inc., would be able to move forward with plans to build 92 single-family houses and 32 condominiums.
The planning commission made the recommendation after a public hearing.
The Mahoning County Planning Commission made the same recommendation last month. Barry plans to build the 130 units on 103 acres. There are 128 acres on the property.
The township's comprehensive land-use plan allows two units for each acre, meaning the developer could build up to 206 units on that amount of property.
Before voting for the recommendation, township planning commission members said they're concerned because Barry's plan calls for the road leading to the single-family unit area of the development to be designated a public road. The township would be responsible for maintaining that road if it were made public.
"That's my hesitation," said Samuel Detwiler, township planning commission member. "I am concerned about that."
