HUBBARD -- Township trustees announced they are circulating a petition regarding the installation of sanitary sewers in the southwest corner of the township.
Trustees said they want to contact as many residents of the affected area as possible.
If 80 percent of the residents in the area sign the petition, it will give trustees authorization to obtain cost estimates for sewer installation. The petition is being circulated at the request of the Trumbull County Health Department because of the large number of malfunctioning septic systems in the area.
Trustees said actual cost of the sewer installation to residents would not be available until after an engineering study has been completed. The township will take income survey of the residents in the affected area. If the average income is low enough, some financial assistance might be available, trustees said.
If sewers are not installed, the county health department will require residents to upgrade septic systems -- at their expense -- to state standards.
Before announcing the petition, trustees met and observed a moment of silence in remembrance of Danny Barr, a volunteer firefighter who died in a motorcycle accident Sunday.
