FARRELL Police ID severely beaten man as being from Youngstown
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police said a man found severely beaten in an alley off the 600 block of Federal Street has been identified as William S. Allen, 40, whose last known address was on Florida Avenue in Youngstown.
Allen was identified Friday afternoon based on "street" information garnered through their investigation, police said. Investigators were able to confirm his identity with Ohio authorities, where Allen is on parole. Southwest Mercer County Regional Police didn't know the nature of his Ohio crime.
Police said Allen hadn't been reported missing and his family was notified that he was in Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after he was identified Friday. They hadn't seen him for a couple of months, police said.
Allen was found unconscious, lying in an alley, around 4:20 a.m. July 5.
Police said he had been beaten severely about the face and head.
He was unconscious for several days and was listed in critical condition but he has improved, police said, noting he is now stable and is awake and alert. Because of his extensive facial injuries, he isn't yet able to speak, police said.
