AROUND THE HORN Sunday's other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Athletics 1, Orioles 0
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Ellis scored on a grounder back to the pitcher with one out in the ninth inning, giving Oakland a three-game sweep. After Terrence Long flew out, Ellis hit a fly off Hector Carrasco (0-2) that appeared to bounce in and out of Melvin Mora's glove as he hit the left-field fence for a triple. Billy McMillon then was walked intentionally to set up a potential double play. With runners on first and third and a drawn-in infield, late-game defensive replacement Ramon Hernandez hit a grounder to Carrasco, who turned and threw to second without looking at Ellis, coming down the third-base line, ending a well pitched game by both starters. A's starter Barry Zito allowed four hits over eight innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
Tigers 3, Red Sox 0
DETROIT -- Wilfredo Ledezma pitched seven impressive innings and Dmitri Young homered as Detroit snapped Boston's five-game winning streak. Acquired from the Red Sox in the winter meeting draft last December, Ledezma (3-2) scattered six hits, struck out two and walked none in his second career start. He has pitched 12 scoreless innings since joining Detroit's starting rotation on July 8. After the first inning, in which the Red Sox got two hits, the only Boston batter to get as far as second base was Trot Nixon, who singled and stole second in the fifth. Tim Wakefield (6-4) allowed just one hit in the first five innings. But that hit, a home run by Young in the fourth, put the Tigers ahead to stay.
Mariners 13, Devil Rays 2
SEATTLE -- Rookie Willie Bloomquist had his biggest day in the majors, hitting a grand slam for his first career homer and driving in six runs. Joel Pineiro (11-5) won his sixth straight start, throwing seven strong innings. He gave up two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk, improving to 7-1 over his last nine starts. Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-5 with a triple in the sixth for his major league-leading 46th multihit game.
Angels 8, Twins 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Garret Anderson homered and right fielder Jeff DaVanon threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the seventh inning as Anaheim completed a three-game sweep of the team it defeated in last year's AL Championship Series. John Lackey (7-8) allowed three runs and seven hits over six-plus innings, striking out five and walking two. Scott Spiezio and Bengie Molina had RBI doubles, helping the Angels win their fifth straight.
Yankees 6, Blue Jays 2
TORONTO -- Jeff Weaver scattered four hits over eight innings and Jason Giambi homered in his third straight game. Weaver (5-7) allowed just one run, while striking out seven and walking none for just his second win in his last nine starts. Carlos Delgado had two RBIs for the Blue Jays, giving him 97 at the All-Star break. That's the third-most ever at the break. Hank Greenberg had 103 in 1935 and Juan Gonzalez had 101 in 1998.
Royals 8, Rangers 2
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Julius Matos and Angel Berroa hit two-run homers in a five-run third as Kansas City completed its first three-game sweep at Texas since 1980. The Royals (51-41) are the first team to follow a 100-loss season with 50 wins by the All-Star break. They lead the AL Central by seven games over the Chicago White Sox, their largest division lead since 1980, when they won the West by 13 games.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cardinals 3, Padres 1
ST. LOUIS -- Kerry Robinson tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Both benches cleared in the first when Albert Pujols was hit in the shoulder blade by Adam Eaton, a day after Pujols lingered at the plate following his game-winning homer. Eaton was immediately ejected, and Pujols, Padres catcher Gary Bennett and San Diego manager Bruce Bochy also were kicked out. During a brief confrontation Pujols punched Bennett in the face. The Cardinals completed a three-game sweep, their fifth sweep in six series against San Diego.
Reds 10, Brewers 8, 12 innings
MILWAUKEE -- Aaron Boone hit a two-run homer in the 12th and Cincinnati overcame a six-run deficit to beat Milwaukee. Sean Casey singled with one out in the 12th off Leo Estrella (2-2) and Boone followed with his 16th homer.
Mets 4, Phillies 3
NEW YORK -- Jason Phillips hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth and New York snapped a six-game losing streak. Tom Glavine pitched six solid innings for the Mets, who overcame another blown save by Armando Benitez (3-3) and ended Philadelphia's five-game winning streak.
Marlins 11, Expos 4
MONTREAL -- Rookie Dontrelle Willis won his eighth straight decision and Ivan Rodriguez had four hits and drove in five runs to lead Florida over Montreal. Plate umpire Marty Foster sustained a concussion and had to be taken off on a stretcher after being hit on the mask by a pitch in the fourth. Willis (9-1), a late addition to the NL All-Star team, allowed six hits and three runs -- two earned -- in five innings.
Dodgers 9, Rockies 3
DENVER -- Jolbert Cabrera had a three-run double in the first and Wilson Alvarez got his first win in over a year as Los Angeles beat Colorado.
Diamondbacks 7, Giants 4
PHOENIX -- Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley and Shea Hillenbrand each drove in a pair of runs in the first two innings as Arizona avoided a three-game sweep.
Braves 7, Cubs 2
CHICAGO -- Vinny Castilla capped a remarkable series against the Cubs, getting three hits and driving in two runs to pace Atlanta. The Braves won three of four to finish a major league-best 61-32 at the All-Star break. Castilla went 3-for-4 and finished the series 11-for-15 (.733) with 10 RBIs. Atlanta scored five runs in the sixth.
