BAZETTA -- First came the sunny skies -- finally -- then the crowds. With only a couple days of the Trumbull County Fair remaining, most people made their first trip of the week to the fairgrounds.
And most said they saw what they had been missing all week. Some watched the tractor pull Saturday evening, while others searched for the best fair food. The kids went to see the animals, play the games and ride the rides.
"We came because it was something to do and it's a nice evening to be out here," Sue Trenga of Brookfield said. "The nicer weather was a big factor."
Saturday's sunny skies factored into many families' decisions to attend the fair.
"This is our first day out here because it has rained all week," Tammy Miller of Newton Falls said. "This is sort of like a tradition for us. Every year we come, and I've been coming since I was little, and now it's [my daughter's] turn to come out and enjoy it."
Miller brought her daughter, Danielle, because she enjoys the rides and the animals, especially the horses and chickens.
The Stevens family of Warren also came out to the fair for the first time this week.
"We came out here mainly to show her [the couple's baby girl] the animals," said Tea Stevens of Warren. "She doesn't get to see cows and horses up close."
Today's weather played a role in the family's decision to come out to the fair. "If it was raining, we probably wouldn't have come," Stevens said.
Looking forward to it
Other families have been looking forward to the fair all week.
"We like the rides, the animals, the food. It's small and it's enjoyable," said Karla Barto of Cornersburg.
Her daughters even picked out their favorite animals.
"We like the pigs. They're cute and they make funny noises and have wet noses," Breanna and Michelle Barto said.
Kim Delgreco came from Bridgeport, W.Va., to visit her parents in Johnston and decided to come out to the fair.
"We wanted to bring the kids to see the animals and play the games."
She said it was a family tradition to come to the fair and brought her sons with her.
Today is the last day of the fair. Gates close at 10 p.m.
