Tribe gains split with ChiSox
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Travis Hafner had three RBIs and Jake Westbrook got his first win since May 9, as the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2 for a split of Saturday's day-night doubleheader.
Shane Spencer added a solo homer and made two nice catches in right field for the Indians, who bounced back from a gut-wrenching loss in the opener.
Paul Konerko hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning as the White Sox rallied for a 7-4 victory in the first game.
Hafner and Westbrook (4-4) were both recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Buffalo, which has been busy shuffling players to the injury-plagued Indians all season.
Baez gets save
Danys Baez, who threw away Cleveland's win with a two-run error in the ninth inning of the day game, worked another shaky ninth for his 21st save.
The White Sox scored once in the inning, and had runners at first and second with none out. But Baez struck out pinch-hitter Konerko looking, popped up pinch-hitter Frank Thomas and got Willie Harris on a fly to shallow left.
Hafner hit a pair of run-scoring doubles off Mike Porzio (0-1), who was brought up late Friday from Triple-Charlotte to pitch Game 2.
The White Sox snapped a four-game losing streak by winning the opener, rallying to win for the first time in 41 games this season when trailing after eight innings.
Two-run double
Hafner, added to the roster when Matt Lawton went on the 15-day disabled list, put the Indians up 2-1 in the fourth inning of the night game with a two-out, two-run double.
Milton Bradley's leadoff single looked as if it might go to waste, but Tim Laker kept the inning alive with a two-out base hit that sent Bradley to third.
Hafner followed with a shot down the left-field line that Carlos Lee just missed with a sliding attempt and the ball bounced to the wall.
Hafner came through again in the sixth. Spencer and Ricky Gutierrez singled, and Hafner hit a drive over center fielder Willie Harris' head.
Spencer scored on the play, but Gutierrez was thrown out at the plate by shortstop Jose Valentin's strong relay throw.
Spencer made it 4-1 in the eighth with his seventh homer.
Westbrook allowed one run and three hits in five innings. The right-hander, who has bounced back and forth from the rotation to the bullpen, was making his first start since May 26.
Konerko connects
In the opener, Konerko hit a three-run homer -- his first with runners on this season -- in the 10th inning off Terry Mulholland (1-2) as the White Sox ended a six-game losing streak against Cleveland.
Chicago was one out from losing but scored two runs to tie it 4-4 when Baez fielded Roberto Alomar's high hopper and threw wildly to first.
Reliever Damaso Marte (3-1) got the win, and Tom Gordon earned his 100th career save. Gordon is the 14th pitcher with 100 career wins and saves.
Notes
Spencer is batting .422 (19-for-45) with four homers and 10 RBIs in his last 16 games. The homer was the 50th of his career. Twice he robbed Magglio Ordonez, named Manny Ramirez's replacement for Tuesday's All-Star game in Chicago, with sliding catches.
Between games, the Indians recalled Westbrook and purchased the contract of RHP Rafael Betancourt from Triple-A Buffalo.
The club optioned Game 1 starter Jason Stanford back to Buffalo and designated RHP Jose Santiago for assignment.
Jacobs Field has hosted 12 day-night doubleheaders, including a three-team one on Sept. 25, 2000, when the White Sox and Minnesota Twins visited the Jake on the same day.
