SOCCER MetroStars register 3 goals in 7-minute span for 3-3 tie

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Ricardo Clark scored on a header in the 76th minute for the tying goal, as the MetroStars rallied for three goals in a seven-minute span to tie the New England Revolution, 3-3, on Saturday in a Major League soccer match.
The MetroStars (7-4-4), down 3-0 after Pat Noonan scored for New England in the 50th minute, began the comeback on John Wolniec's goal in the 69th minute.
New England (5-3-6) was charged with an own goal in the 72nd minute when goalkeeper Adin Brown's clearing attempt deflected off Revolution defender Daouda Kante and into the net.
Taylor Twellman scored his league-leading ninth goal in the seventh minute, and Joe-Max Moore made it 2-0 in the 36th.
MetroStars goalkeeper Tim Howard, who just acquired a work permit allowing him to play for Manchester United, made 11 saves.
D.C. United 2, Fire 1
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Galin Ivanov and Ben Olsen scored goals, and Hristo Stoitchkov had two assists against his former team.
D.C. United (4-5-6) handed the Fire (6-4-4) their first home loss of the season.
Chicago's Jesse Marsch opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and Ivanov tied it three minutes later on a header off Stoitchkov's free kick.
Olson broke the tie in the 45th minute with a header off another feed from Stoitchkov.
Fire players DaMarcus Beasley and Carlos Bocanegra and D.C. United's Earnie Stewart and Bobby Convey missed the game to play for the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Igor Simutenkov scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half for Kansas City.

ATLANTA -- Conny Pohlers scored in the 49th minute, leading the Atlanta Beat to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Freedom in a game where both lineups were depleted by national-team call-ups.
Pohlers took a loose ball and wove through three Washington defenders before beating Freedom goalkeeper Nicci Wright with a shot to the upper right corner of the net.
Atlanta (8-3-4) increased its lead over second-place Boston to six points. Atlanta has six games left, five on the road.
The Beat improved to 2-0 in games started by goalkeeper Melanie Wilson, who had two saves. She made a leaping deflection of Casey Zimny's shot in stoppage time to preserve the win.
Ifeoma Dieke scored her first goal in the 26th minute to give the Beat the lead but Washington's Jen Grubb tied it in the 27th minute with a shot from 20 yards out.
Washington (6-5-3) had 10 corner kicks to Atlanta's three and out-shot the Beat 12-10. Meredith Beard had a clear shot in the 22nd minute, but Wilson deflected it off the left post.

CARY, N.C. -- New York's Anita Rapp and Cheryl Salisbury scored goals in a seven-minute span of the first half.
New York (7-7-2) improved to .500 for the first time since May 10, and won on the road for the first time since beating San Jose 2-0 on June 8. The loss ended Carolina's three-game winning streak.
Rapp scored in the 30th minute off a long crossing pass from Shannon Box. Salisbury made it 2-0 in the 37th minute, one-timing a long chip from Jaclyn Raveia past goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill.
Marcia Wallis scored in stoppage time for the Courage (5-7-3).
