Sharon hospital drive to buy furniture

Major contributors will get their name on a door plaque.
SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Regional Health System has launched a three-year, $1.4 million Capital Campaign to buy 152 new patient-care beds and overbed tables, bedside stands, visitor chairs and other items.
Individuals or businesses pledging at the platinum level ($10,000 or more) over the three-year campaign will be honored by having their name appear on a door plaque as a sponsor of a specific patient-care room.
Special recognition also will be given to individuals or businesses whose cumulative support reaches the $5,000 [gold], $2,500 [silver], or $1,000 [bronze] levels through Dec. 31, 2005.
Platinum pledges
Sharon Regional already has received pledges at the platinum level from the Shenango Valley Foundation; Hudson Group Inc.; Wayne W. Johnston, Sharon Regional president/CEO and his wife, Diane; Hill-Rom Co.; and the Sharon Regional medical staff.
"I think sometimes we forget that Sharon Regional is a nonprofit, community-owned facility that is here to care for area residents throughout their lives," said James Feeney, chairman of the board of directors. "Since the hospital is not owned by an out-of-town facility, we truly have the community's best interests in mind as we plan and implement the health-care services needed in this region."
Charles D'Auria, D.O., president of the Sharon Regional medical staff, said physicians at Sharon Regional have seen a number of advanced diagnostic and treatment services developed over the past 10 years such as open heart surgery, angioplasty and the Cancer Care Center.
"We're pleased to give our support to this campaign so the nurses and other caregivers can continue to care for our patients in an environment that is favorable to healing and recovery," he said.
Model rooms
There is a model room in place that includes all the new furnishings on the 6 West patient care unit as well as one room in the critical-care unit. Additional new patient beds and other furnishings are expected to begin arriving later this summer.
