Activities:
1. Draw a picture of yourself with some friends on a caving trip. Write a story about your adventure.
2. Why would a spelunker need each of these items: (a) helmet lamp, (b) kneepads, (c) watch, (d) high-energy food and (e) compass?
3. Create your own spelunking team. Select five people from the newspaper that you would take with you on a cave exploration trip. Explain why you selected these individuals. What skills and talents do your team members have?
4. What school subjects would help prepare you to explore caves? List the subject and explain how each would contribute to the knowledge and skills you would need.
5. Use reference books and the Internet to learn more about one of the caves mentioned in today's MiniPage. Use these questions to guide your research: When was the cave discovered? How deep is the cave? How large is the biggest room in the cave? What unusual features does the cave have? How many people visit the cave each year?
