GROVE CITY, PA. Cottage 'mom' to enter pleas in sex case

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Authorities said a former cottage parent at George Junior Republic, a juvenile detention and education center, has agreed to plead guilty to having illegal sexual contact with a 16-year-old boy at the center.
Amy M. Anderson, 33, of Amsterdam Road, will plead guilty to charges of sexual assault, facilitating escape and corruption of minors in exchange for his office not filing an additional 15 charges against her related to interference of a custodial relationship, said Timothy Bonner, an assistant Mercer County district attorney.
Should she fail to enter the guilty pleas, those additional charges will be filed against her, Bonner said.
The agreement was reached before a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday before District Justice Lawrence Silvis.
Anderson waived her right to the hearing, and the case moves into common pleas court, where she is expected to enter her guilty pleas.
Boys sent to George Junior live in group cottages, and Bonner said Anderson was working as a cottage parent when she got sexually involved with a 16-year-old boy living there about a year ago.
She helped him escape from the facility on Nov. 1, and three days later the two helped a second 16-year-old boy escape, Bonner said.
Bonner said Anderson and the first boy spent a couple of months on the run together, living in Rochester, Pa., Niagara Falls, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and various locations in Florida.
Anderson was arrested in June and remains free on bond pending an appearance in common pleas court.
