YOUNGSTOWN -- City police were called to Federal Plaza near Phelps Street before 1 a.m. Saturday after a man with a head gash was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center saying he had been hit with a brick during a disagreement.
Ronnie Trimble, 20, of Manhattan Avenue on the city's West Side, faces charges of felonious assault and drug abuse, after police found green pills in his pocket during the arrest, police reports show.
The victim, Ross Rodino III, 38, of West Indianola Avenue said Trimble had tried to sell him a watch and when he said no, Trimble began shouting and struck him with the brick from behind.
Woman robbed at red light
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Hubbard woman said someone threw a brick through her closed car window and stole her purse as she waited at an East Side traffic light at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
City police reports say the woman, 39, told officers she was driving southbound on Verona Avenue at Albert Street when a man in his 30s threw the brick through the passenger's window, hitting the driver's seat. He stole $100, a leather purse, a cell phone and credit cards.
Man faces drug charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 30-year-old East Side man faces charges of crack cocaine trafficking, carrying a concealed weapon and drug abuse after police found suspected drugs and a handgun during a traffic stop at North Garland Avenue and McGuffey Road.
City police said they had pulled over Eric S. McElroy, 30, of Katherine Avenue, at about 10:25 p.m. Friday when an officer saw the handgun just under the driver seat. Suspected marijuana, a large chunk of suspected crack cocaine and $2,900 was found in McElroy's pockets and wallet, police said.
Accidental shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 13-year-old Boardman boy who suffered a gunshot wound to his right forearm was shot accidentally, city police said. The teen said he and a 14-year-old friend were on a porch of the friend's South Schenley Avenue home at about 2 p.m. Friday when the friend went in the house and returned with his mother's revolver, police reports show. The injured boy said the gun accidentally fired when his friend was going to take it to the basement. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Block watch to meet
YOUNGSTOWN -- The South Avenue Block Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. The discussion will be about crimes in the area. Councilman John Nittoli, D-7th, will be available to speak with residents.
