PHOENIX -- LaToya Thomas hit a short jumper with 3.2 seconds to play to give Cleveland the win. Thomas, who finished with 20 points, worked her way across the lane for the 5-footer that erased the lead Phoenix took when Kayte Christensen made a free throw with 10.9 seconds to go. Betty Lennox scored 13 points for the Rockers (8-8). Anna DeForge had 15 points for the Mercury (3-14).
Monarchs 89, Silver Stars 76
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Yolanda Griffith had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Sacramento gave coach John Whisenant his first victory with the team. Whisenant, the team's assistant general manager, replaced head coach Maura McHugh, who was fired Tuesday night after Sacramento lost its third straight road game. McHugh went 35-35 with the Monarchs. Reserve LaQuanda Quick had six 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 22 points for San Antonio, which lost for the fourth time in five games.
Sting 65, Shock 58
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 17 points and Andrea Stinson added 14 before leaving with a hip injury as the Charlotte Sting won their fourth straight. The Sting (12-6) moved into first place in the Eastern Conference, one-half game ahead of the Shock (10-5). Cheryl Ford scored a career-high 20 points and Swin Cash and Deanna Nolan added 11 apiece for the Shock, who have lost four of six.
Fever 76, Liberty 69
INDIANAPOLIS -- Tamika Catchings' 15-footer from the left baseline with 45 seconds left completed Indiana's comeback from an 18-point deficit. Catchings finished with a season-high 31 points, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Fever (10-7) completed the second biggest comeback in franchise history. Indiana trailed by 19 points before defeating Phoenix 86-78 on July 1, 2001. Vickie Johnson had 22 points for New York (7-7), which played without starting All-Star center Tari Phillips, who had a family emergency in Florida.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Katie Smith scored 34 points, the most in the WNBA this season, and Minnesota shot 54 percent from the field. Smith made two free throws midway through the second half to reach the 4,000-point mark as a professional. Smith, who played three seasons in the ABL with Colorado, has 4,013 points and is the all-time leading scorer in women's professional basketball history. Smith scored 21 points in the second half, including 19 in a 10-minute span as Minnesota (9-8) went up 75-62 with six minutes remaining. Brooke Wyckoff and Wendy Palmer each had 17 points for the Sun (9-10).
